FESTIVAL CITY
Festival lovers will revel in a rich roster of cultural, art, music, theatre and sports festivals — some 40 separate events — that energize our city annually. Each month brings new festivals to life; see for yourself why we’ve earned the internationally renowned title “Canada’s Festival City.” Unique events here include North America’s largest Fringe Theatre Festival. Credit goes to our rich, dynamic arts community for their spirit and excellence in music, opera, dance, visual arts, literature and theatre, to name but a few.
SHOPPING BLISS
Shoppers will surely get their fix at The Greatest Indoor Show on Earth — West Edmonton Mall — as well as at diverse shopping malls, warehouse-direct and one-of-a-kind shops. And you’ll save — Alberta has no provincial sales tax. Downtown, Edmonton City Centre offers more than 170 stores and services. As well, newly modernized Kingsway Mall offers more than 200 stores and services. Minutes from downtown, Southgate Centre offers fashion-forward retailers in a mall that’s just had a makeover.
PRO SPORTS
From the Edmonton Eskimos (CFL football) and the Edmonton Oilers (NHL hockey) to our newer teams — the Edmonton Capitals Baseball Club, Edmonton Rush Lacrosse Club, Edmonton Energy Basketball and Edmonton Oil Kings (WHL Hockey) — there’s always a big game to attend.
DINING DELIGHTS
Diners will delight in our culinary diversity. Whether you crave gourmet and fusion cuisine, or down-home meat-and-potatoes comfort food, Edmonton boasts a hearty menu of cafes and bistros, family diners, pubs and steak houses as well as internationally inspired eateries.
CITY OF WONDERS
Getting around Edmonton is a breeze. Take in the modern cityscape as well as the greenery and woods along North Saskatchewan River valley. Romantics will love the shimmering night-sky dance of the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). It’s but one of the countless pleasant surprises that await you in our city of wonders.
TAKE A DAY TRIP
Up for a day trip? Edmonton serves as a gateway to Alberta’s historical and recreational attractions. Only three hours from Jasper National Park, visitors can also ski in the Rocky Mountains, fly-fish in northern Alberta’s lakes, bird-watch at Elk Island National Park or simply marvel at our scenic beauty.
